Bell-Everman is more than simply a “catalog stage supplier” — we offer complete, engineered motion solutions. Often a customer will come to us with a rough idea of what they are looking for. Our engineers will work with them to help focus in on the optimal solution which balances performance, cost, and schedule concerns. We view our core products as building blocks that can be used as the basis for custom-engineered motion systems, but often we need to create a completely new design to give the customer exactly what they need for their special application.

Our engineered solutions are backed with rigorous testing and evaluation to ensure the final deliverable hardware meets 100% of the customer’s requirements.

The staff at Bell-Everman are experts with many different types of motion control systems including Delta Tau, MEI, Teknic, ACS Tech-80, and National Instruments LabView. We can provide you with a fully-integrated, turn-key system, and even provide CE compliance. We’re experts with complete, integrated linear and rotary motion systems – let us do the hard work so you don’t have to!

A sample of Engineered Solutions we have provided

Problem: Customer needed an economical, large area, XY theta gantry system for flat panel inspection.

Solution: OSP Gantry
Working closely with the customer, Bell-Everman designed an air bearing/recirculating ball, hybrid-bearing system integrated atop an economical weldment. Over 30 of these large units were delivered to support the customer’s aggressive production requirements.

Problem: Semiconductor customer needed a drop-in, XY theta stage system with internal cabling and tight yaw, pitch and roll performance.

Solution: Stacked IMB stages with DDT 200 rotary stage
The IMB linear stages used for this project use a unique “tunable” bearing rail system which allows for easy adjustment to meet the yaw, pitch and roll requirements. All of the cable utilities were routed internal to the stages. Additionally, Bell-Everman delivered the stages fully integrated and tested with the customer-designed cradle enclosure, vacuum chuck and other componentry to provide a 100% “plug and play” system.

Problem: A circuit board inspection OEM had a difficult set of requirements for a two and three axis motion system, most importantly low cost, high repeatability, and settling times below 20 msec with near continuous 2g acceleration of a heavy payload.

Solution: Stacked LowBoy stages using ServoNut Power Module drive systems
The ServoNut drives allowed for high rms forces and drive stiffness and direct reading linear encoders helped meet the tight positioning requirements. Extruded aluminum was utilized on the chassis to help save cost. Over 250 axes were delivered in less than a year in support of the customer’s production schedule.

Problem: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory required ultra-clean, vacuum-compatible actuators to position optics for the high-energy laser within the National Ignition Facility. The size envelope, performance, and even the exact materials were tightly specified due to the critical nature of this project.

Solution: FOCAS actuator
Bell-Everman custom-designed an actuator which was 100% compliant to the customer’s rigorous specifications. Special materials and precision cleaning were needed to comply with the unique requirements demanded by this application. This project required a high level of project management to support all of the required analyses, reports, schedules, and data submittals to the customer.

Problem: An OEM Semiconductor customer required high-throughput, tight positioning, and low settling times – all within a very tight envelope.

Solution: Customized KAOS OEM-M
Bell-Everman used the unique KAOS OEM-M for this application, however significant added design features were required such as:

  • An ultra stiff “flying V” payload plate which was honeycomb-pocketed with a dip-brazed cover to provide a very high stiffness to weight ratio.
  • Mounting and electrical interfaces were tailored to allow the unit to drop-in to the customer’s OEM application.
  • Special end-of-travel dampers were added at the customer’s request.
